As the fastest growing outdoor activity it seems It's all about birds!  There are over 900 species of birds in North America, 1,000 in Europe, South America has 3,200, in Africa there are 2,300 species, 2,900 in Asia, and 1,700 in Australia. Around the world there are more than 10,000 species and more than 30,000 subspecies of birds.  At any given time our planet Earth has between one and two billion birds!  Birds are an important to our ecosystem however 21% of bird species are currently extinction-prone and 6.5% are extinct (reference: PNAS) which has pronounced ecological effects.  All of us who enjoy birds can do our part to support conservation of wetlands, protection and creation of open spaces, and support environmental policies that have a low cost factor when compared to the cost of ecological decline.  Birds!  We marvel at their flight and long to mimic it!  We marvel and rejoice in their color and design! We are compassionate and doting of the small and delicate hummingbird and thrill at the immense and powerful raptors!  Annually, Audubon has a Christmas Bird Count that everyone can and should be involved in; it only takes 15 minutes of your day!  Log on and find out more!

As wildlife rescuers in the Pacific Northwest we have been fortunate to have had first hand experience with osprey, owls, hawks, pelicans, cormorants, and other seabirds and forest dwellers.  We hope that you will find a pendant that will bring you, or a good friend, much enjoyment as a talisman, a herald to all who see it, that birds are important!  Each of our little sculptures are created in the lost wax method.  Made in the USA.  Handmade jewelry as art, nature in jewelry.

"...A thousand birds are in my grove,

Melodious from morn to night;

My fruit trees are their treasure trove,

Their happiness is my delight.

And through the sweet and shining days

They know their lover and their friend;

So I will shield in peace and praise

My innocents until the end."  Robert Service

We never miss the music until the sweet-voiced bird has flown away." O. Henry
