Big earrings are in ... and they're pull the heck out of your ear lobe.  SO how did the ancients do it?  Those enormous earrings had a wire similar to that little hooky thing that hearing aids have that hook over the top of your ear.  Basically an anchor of support for a heavy earring.  For today's heavy earrings about the best thing you can do is use a large disc back.  Forgo the precious metal clutch for this big disc back.  It will act as a counter weight and keep your oversized button earring from falling forward, or, help to support a long dangle.

Trending Two Tone Jewelry

Trends come and go...and come and go again.  Two and three tone jewelry was all the rage during the 80's.  The or now, you might wonder "How do they do that?"

There's a couple of options.  One, the jewelry can be made in one metal and then plated.  An example would be a sterling silver bracelet and the it is yellow gold and rose gold plated.  

The other option is that the piece of jewelry is actually made in pieces, each piece being a different color. An example of this is the once very popular Black Hills Gold.  They have two lines which directly correspond to price: less expensive and more expensive.  The less expensive line is created in different colors of 10 karat gold; the more expensive line is created in 14 karat.

In today's market, you can't comparison shop for quality or price if you don't know what to ask for.  In this case ask: Is the two tone jewelry plated?  If it is, what's the base metal?  If it isn't plated, then what metal is it, all of it?

Year of the Rooster - Happy Chinese New Year!

Chinese New Year will soon be here.   As we approach the end of the Year of the Fire Monkey we enter the Year of the Fire Rooster.  You're a Fire Rooster if you were born any time during 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005 and 2029 and 2017!
Characteristics of Fire Roosters include being trustworthy, responsible at work and have a strong sense of timekeeping, the most motivated animal in the Chinese zodiac, career oriented, hard-working and able to deal with a variety of jobs due to their multiple talents.
